Congratulations on your pregnancy! To make the most of your first visit below is some information to help you prepare for your appointment.
As soon as you suspect you are pregnant, you should schedule an appointment at our office for a pregnancy test with a provider. Afterwards we’ll schedule an appointment for your first ultrasound and visit with a provider.
First Appointment
Your first prenatal visit is generally the longest visit of your pregnancy and will usually last about 45 minutes. During this visit we will obtain your medical history, do a physical exam (pelvic and breast exam), Pap Smear, identify potential risk factors, and order lab work. We may also include testing for infectious diseases and sexually transmitted diseases.
Ask Questions
Since this is your first visit, it’s important to ask any questions you may have so you can discuss them with your provider. Your provider will discuss common pregnancy issues with you. Your health and the health of your baby is our utmost concern. Don’t be afraid to write down any questions you have before your visit so you don’t forget to ask them. It is our pleasure to answer your questions.
Services for Expectant Mothers
Capital Region Women’s Care provides the following obstetric services for expectant mothers:
- Full obstetrical care – prenatal care, delivery and postpartum care
- Screening tests
- For Down Syndrome and other chromosomal problems
- Neural tube defect (spina bifida)
- In office ultrasound
- Referral to high risk pregnancy doctors as your condition may require
- Circumcision
- The head of your baby’s penis, or glans, is covered by a layer of foreskin. Circumcision is the surgical removal of this foreskin. The circumcision is usually performed soon after your baby’s birth. Circumcising your son is your decision. This is an elective procedure.
