When to see a Gynecologist

Guidelines have changed over the past years about when you should see a gynecologist for the first time. Generally you should visit a gynecologist:

  • When you are 18 or earlier if you become sexually active
  • If you have unusual bleeding or irregular periods
  • If you stop having periods for three months or more
  • If you suspect or know you are pregnant
  • If you have been trying to become pregnant without success
  • If you have pelvic pain

You should visit a gynecologist at OB/GYN Health Center Associates:

  • For an annual pelvic exam
  • To learn about birth control options
  • To learn how to prevent and test for sexually transmitted diseases
  • Screening for reproductive cancers, such as Pap smear
